Hakata Port - International Ferry Terminal

Hakata International Ferry Terminal is the primary Fukuoka ferry terminal for international sailings, sitting on Hakata Bay within easy reach of the city centre — roughly a 10-minute taxi ride or 20 minutes by public transport from Hakata Station and its Shinkansen lines.

From here, ferries from Fukuoka connect travellers to Busan in South Korea and to domestic destinations across Kyushu’s surrounding islands.

Some of the facilities at Hakata International Ferry Terminal include:

  • Multilingual information counter (1st floor) offering Kyushu and Busan sightseeing guidance, transport and accommodation information, and pamphlets, with Korean interpretation and advance-reservation sign-language support
  • Currency exchange handling KRW (₩), USD, and EUR to Japanese yen, plus yen to Korean won
  • ATM and a coffee shop on the 1st floor
  • Sales of transport passes, including one-day bus cards and the Fukuoka tourist city bus card
  • Airport-style waiting lounge, immigration, customs, and quarantine on the 2nd floor
  • Duty-free shop for international departures
  • Dining options including the Harbor Village restaurant on the 3rd floor and Kopan Kara Korean fried chicken
  • Coin lockers (medium ¥300, large ¥500 per day), available daily from 8:00 to 23:00
  • Cashless parking (credit card, electronic money, and QR code) — note there is no reservation service, and spaces fill quickly on weekends, event days, and cruise-ship arrivals

How to Reach Hakata International Ferry Terminal

Hakata International Ferry Terminal sits within the city and is easily reached by bus, subway, taxi, or car from Fukuoka’s main transport hubs. There is no direct train to the terminal itself, so most travellers arrive by bus or taxi:

  • From Hakata Station: Take bus No. 88 from Bus Stop F in front of the Hakata Station Centre Building and alight at Hakata Port International Terminal — approximately 20 minutes. A taxi covers the same trip in around 10 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
  • From Tenjin: Take bus No. 80 from Bus Stop 2A in front of Tenjin Solaria Stage and alight at Hakata Port International Terminal — approximately 15 minutes.
  • From Fukuoka Airport: Take the subway to Gofuku-machi Station, then transfer to bus No. 88 and alight at Hakata Port International Terminal. Allow roughly 25–30 minutes in total, as the subway journey requires a line transfer.
  • By car (expressway): Enter the Fukuoka Urban Expressway at Fukuoka Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway, exit at Higashihama ramp, and head toward Tenjin; at the junction in front of Marine Messe, turn right and continue about 100 m to the terminal. Cashless parking is available on site.
